Seat-sharing negotiations among the coalition partners of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) resumed on Friday, marking a significant step towards solidifying their alliance ahead of the upcoming elections. The discussions, which had briefly paused due to the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) organized by the Congress, reconvened at the Trident hotel in Nariman Point.

Congress leaders such as Balasaheb Thorat and Nana Patole, who had been actively involved in the BJNY, returned to Mumbai on Wednesday to participate in further talks on seat-sharing.

However, amidst the discussions, a notable omission was observed as the MVA did not extend an invitation to the chief of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), Prakash Ambedkar.

The meeting at the Trident hotel saw the presence of key MVA leaders including Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, MP Sanjay Raut, Nana Patole, Ramesh Chennithala, K C Venugopal Rao, and Jitendra Awhad.

Reports suggest that the MVA is eager to include the VBA in its coalition, having offered four Lok Sabha seats to the party. However, Prakash Ambedkar has reiterated his party’s intention to contest all 27 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and is seeking a reasonable share of seats in any potential alliance.

The presence of the VBA in the electoral arena poses a challenge for the Congress, as the party garners significant support from Dalits and Muslims – crucial voting blocs traditionally aligned with the Congress.

As negotiations continue, the dynamics of seat-sharing within the MVA alliance remain a topic of keen interest, with stakeholders navigating the delicate balance of power and representation in Maharashtra politics.
