Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Monday unveiled a massive Rs 31,628-crore relief package to support farmers and citizens affected by the recent heavy rains and floods. The state assured that the full compensation will be disbursed before Diwali.
At a press conference alongside Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that all farmers who suffered crop losses will receive an immediate cash relief of Rs 10,000.
“This is the largest compensation package announced in India this year, surpassing allocations made by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu,” Fadnavis stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to timely support for those impacted.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that damaged houses will be reconstructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, providing shelter to flood-affected families.
Fadnavis added that Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has assured the government will expedite the insurance claims process to ensure farmers receive their due compensation promptly.
