In a significant move aimed at bolstering minority welfare initiatives, the Maharashtra government has announced the establishment of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar State Minorities Commissionerate, along with the creation of minority cells at the district level. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The newly formed Commissionerate will operate under the purview of the Minority Development Department, signaling the government’s commitment to addressing the needs and concerns of minority communities across the state. Additionally, minority cells will be established in each district under the supervision of District Planning Officers, further extending the reach of minority-focused initiatives.
A total of 36 posts have been approved for staffing the minority commissionerate office, reflecting the government’s dedication to ensuring the efficient functioning of this crucial institution. Furthermore, the creation of minority cells at the district level will see the appointment of District Planning Officers as District Minority Officers, facilitating seamless coordination and implementation of minority-centric programs and policies.
To support the operational expenses of the newly established entities, the government has allocated a substantial budgetary provision. An annual budget of Rs. 2 crores 20 lakhs has been earmarked for the salaries of the 36 posts in the Minority Commissionerate, while an additional Rs. 40 lakhs per annum has been allocated for office expenses. Overall, a budgetary provision of Rs. 845 lakh has been approved to ensure the effective functioning of these minority-focused institutions.
This proactive step by the Maharashtra government underscores its commitment to fostering inclusivity and equitable development for all sections of society. By establishing the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar State Minorities Commissionerate and district minority cells, the government aims to empower minority communities and address their unique socio-economic challenges, paving the way for a more inclusive and vibrant Maharashtra.
