Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis and Pradesh Congress Committee today paid tributes to those who took part in the Quit India Movement. The movement began from Gowalia Tank now known as August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. On this day, freedom fighter Aruna Asaf Ali hoisted the Tricolor at this Maidan.
In a message CM Uddhav Thackeray offered his prayers to freedom fighters. He said, we all should pledge to eradicate corona virus and double the joy of Azadi ka amrut mahostav. While offering his tributes to freedom fighters Mr. Ajit Pawar said, we all should try to protect our freedom. In a tweet Opposition Leader Mr. Fadnavis said, Salutations to all brave sons & daughters of BharatMata on August Kranti Diwas, who played an active role in the Indian Freedom struggle.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress President Nana Patole, Cabinet Minister Ashok Chavan and other leaders also offered homage at August Kranti Maidan. Later flag hoisting was also organised. Members of labour unions and activists gathered at the August Kranti Maidan to mark the occasion.
