As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the political arena in Maharashtra is ablaze with accusations and revelations. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has recently made headlines with his candid admissions and allegations, shedding light on the intricacies of political maneuvering and alleged corruption.
In a recent interview with Mumbai Tak, Somaiya disclosed that he received directives from then Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the BJP hierarchy to “expose” corruption within Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s family ahead of the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Despite initial reluctance, Somaiya stated that he eventually complied with the party’s orders, aiming to unveil the purported nexus between BMC contractors and Thackeray.
Somaiya’s revelations come amidst a backdrop of escalating political tensions and electoral strategies. With accusations flying back and forth, Somaiya has not shied away from criticizing both the current Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government and his own party’s governance in Maharashtra.
Reflecting on recent governmental affairs, Somaiya highlighted instances of alleged corruption attempts within the MVA government, emphasizing his efforts to expose such malpractices. He asserted his commitment to transparency and accountability, recounting how he brought concerns of potential scams to the attention of authorities in Delhi.
Furthermore, Somaiya touched upon the political dynamics within the state, acknowledging the complexities of navigating alliances and rivalries. He praised Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar for maintaining order during his endeavors to review benami properties, contrasting this with alleged attacks by Thackeray’s supporters.
Despite admitting to political compromises, Somaiya emphasized the necessity of exposing corruption to safeguard the BJP’s interests in Maharashtra.
