Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar has revealed plans to extend his working hours to facilitate hearings on pending disqualification petitions while ensuring the seamless functioning of the House.
Addressing reporters in Nagpur, Narwekar emphasized the necessity to maintain the legislative assembly’s smooth operation alongside resolving pending disqualification cases. He stated, “I need to ensure the smooth functioning of the legislative assembly as well as complete the disqualification hearings pending before me. It looks like I will be working from 9 am to 10 pm in this period to give justice to both responsibilities.”
Narwekar is presiding over cross-petitions filed by rival factions of the Shiv Sena, each seeking disqualification of the other’s MLAs following a split within the party last year. He announced plans to dedicate two and a half hours on Thursday at the Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur for these hearings.
