Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections on Saturday, introducing a diverse slate that includes a transgender candidate. The elections are expected to take place in mid-November.

During a press conference in Mumbai, VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar revealed that Shamibha Patil, a transgender from the Leva Patil community, will contest the Raver assembly seat in Jalgaon district, North Maharashtra.
