Prayagraj: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday took a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Clad in a white saree, she stood in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, offering prayers for the well-being of the nation.
She was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. As per a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu is also scheduled to visit Akshayavat, Hanuman Mandir, and the Digital Kumbh Anubhav Centre.
The tradition of Indian presidents taking a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh dates back to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the country’s first president, who participated in the ritual decades ago.
Her visit comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took part in the sacred bath at Sangam. Sharing his experience, the PM posted on X, “I got immense peace and satisfaction from the blessings of Maa Ganga. I prayed for the happiness, prosperity, health, and well-being of all countrymen. Har-Har Gange!”
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 continues to witness a massive influx of devotees, dignitaries, and saints, reinforcing its status as the world’s largest spiritual gathering.
