Mumbai: Maharashtra CM has announced equal bonus for BMC and BEST employees, this might be to woo the employees as the BMC elections are nearing.
This year employees of BMC and BEST will get a bonus of ₹20,000 each. A meeting was held with BEST workers Union office bearers, Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar, BEST chairman Ashish Chemburkar on Friday at Varsha Bungalow.
Mayor assured Suhas Samant, president of ‘BEST’ Kamgar Sena, that an appropriate decision would be announced soon after discussions with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The bonus has now been announced on the same basis.
BEST employees have expressed happiness over the announcement of bonus as much as BMC employees. The office bearers of BMC and BEST Union have expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister and BMC Commissioner for increasing the bonus by Rs 4,500.
Adv. Prakash Devdas, convener of the workers’ coordination committee, said that “After a long discussion of the last two days, the Chief Minister has announced to give a bonus of Rs 20,000 to all the employees of BMC and BEST and this bonus will not be reduced in the next three years. Last year, the workers got a bonus of Rs 15,000, but now it has increased by Rs 4,500 to Rs 20,000.”
Devdas added, “The Coordinating Committee brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that 40,000 posts of the Corporation are lying vacant. And their burden is being borne by the workers of the BMC. We have put this important issue before him. We thank the Chief Minister for taking all our issues into consideration and fulfilling our demands.”
Last year, after the mediation of the Chief Minister, 95,000 BMC employees got a bonus of ₹ 15,500. Around 32,000 BEST employees were given a bonus of Rs 10,100.
