Mumbai: Samajwadi Party, which is also an alliance party with the ruling Shiv Sena led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has announced to contest the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on its own. Earlier, Congress had also announced to contest the elections alone.

Targeting the ruling Shiv Sena in BMC, SP leader Rais Shaikh said that the corporator of any party is not being heard. Shiv Sena is running BMC in an arbitrary manner, it is necessary to curb it. Corruption is going on a large scale with the connivance of Shiv Sena and BMC officials, we will bring all this in front of Mumbaikars. Only Samajwadi Party can develop all sections of the society.

Shaikh further said, “we supported the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) so that BJP could be prevented from coming to power, but the MVA government has been reduced to only three parties Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP. No importance is given to other parties, except these three parties. Raees said that he is opposed to both BJP and Shiv Sena. BJP has betrayed the trust of people. Citizens are angry with the policies of BJP, it will definitely benefit SP.

Stopping BJP is our first priority. On the other hand, Shiv Sena is a party involved in corruption. There is no policy in the MVA government. Raees Sheikh claimed that SP will get so many seats in the BMC elections that without their support, no party’s mayor can be appointed.

SP had conducted a survey regarding BMC elections, in which it has 58 seats where their chances of winning are more. That’s why SP has made up its mind to contest elections alone.

SP MLA and group leader in BMC, Rais Shaikh said, “according to the report of the recent survey conducted by the party, we have strong chances of winning 58-60 seats in the city. Some areas have been focussed and there are maximum chances to win the seat. Therefore, we are going to fight strongly on those 58 seats and try to win most of the seats. This time SP will give tickets to all the candidates of all categories. Our main target will be to keep BJP out of the ring.”

The Samajwadi Party had fielded candidates on 85 seats in the 2017 BMC elections, out of which only 6 were successful.
