“Love, Lies, and Murder”: Wife’s Lover Among 3 Arrested in Indore Man’s Honeymoon Killing

Indore: In a dramatic breakthrough in the sensational honeymoon murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, Meghalaya Police on Friday confirmed the detention of three individuals, including Raj Kushwaha—allegedly the boyfriend of Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.

The arrests come after an extensive multi-state investigation involving coordinated efforts between police teams in Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. According to a press statement by Meghalaya Police, two suspects were apprehended from Indore and one from Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh.

“Following sustained investigative efforts and multi-state coordination, three individuals have been apprehended in connection with this case… These arrests mark a decisive development in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Raja Raghuvanshi and the subsequent disappearance of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi,” the statement read.

Indore Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed at a press briefing that the detained accused are Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, and Akash Rajput. While Kushwaha and Chauhan are residents of Nandbagh in Indore, Rajput hails from Lalitpur.

The couple had gone missing on May 23 while on their honeymoon in Shillong. Raja’s body was later found in the jungles of East Khasi Hills, while Sonam remained untraceable for 17 days.

She was finally located at a roadside eatery—Kashi Dhaba—on the Banaras-Ghazipur main road in Uttar Pradesh, after contacting her brother around 2 AM. Uttar Pradesh ADG Amitabh Yash said police swiftly rescued her and took her for medical examination before moving her to a one-stop women’s centre.

“She will be handed over to the Meghalaya Police team, which is already present in Indore, for further investigation. All formal documentation will follow,” said ADG Yash.
