In a surprising move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with no candidates from Maharashtra. However, amidst this omission, a prominent leader from Maharashtra, Kripashankar Singh, has been directly nominated to contest from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Kripashankar Singh, a former Home Minister in the Congress government of Maharashtra, has been granted a ticket by the BJP to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Jaunpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Singh, who previously served as the Minister of State for Home in Maharashtra and was a former MLA from Kalina, Mumbai, hails from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, his ancestral village.

The announcement came during a press conference held at the BJP’s Delhi headquarters under the leadership of central leader Vinod Tawde. Despite the absence of any nominations from Maharashtra in the initial list, the decision to field Singh from Jaunpur reflects the BJP’s strategic move to leverage his influence among North Indians, particularly in Mumbai and Maharashtra.

Singh’s political career flourished in Maharashtra, where he garnered significant support among North Indian communities residing in various districts of Mumbai and Maharashtra, especially those from Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Known for his active involvement in cultural events and festivals, such as Chhath Puja, in Uttar Pradesh, Singh has cultivated a strong rapport with the local populace.
