Bandipora: In a major breakthrough amid heightened counter-terror operations following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was gunned down and an overground worker (OGW) sustained injuries during an encounter with security forces in the Bandipora district on Friday.

The encounter, which began late Thursday night in the forested Kulnar Bazipora region, also left two soldiers injured as intense gunfire continues between the hiding terrorists and Indian forces. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs about militant presence in the area.

The offensive is part of an aggressive manhunt launched by security agencies to apprehend those responsible for the shocking Pahalgam terror attack earlier this week, in which 26 tourists were killed in cold blood.

Amid the ongoing operation, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi reached Srinagar for a comprehensive security review. He was briefed on the ground situation and progress in the Bandipora encounter as forces maintain pressure on the Lashkar-e-Taiba elements believed to be involved in the attack.

In parallel developments, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday demolished the residences of two individuals suspected of aiding the attackers. The house of LeT operative Adil Hussain Thoker in Bijbehara was destroyed using improvised explosive devices, while a bulldozer was used to raze the home of another suspected militant, Asif Sheikh, in Tral.

Thoker is alleged to have played a critical role in supporting Pakistani militants during the planning and execution of the assault in the scenic Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam.
