Maharashtra should prepare strongly for the Olympic sports events as a team – Governor Bais

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that January 15, the birthday of Maharashtra’s Olympic bronze medalist Malla Khashaba Jadhav will be celebrated as the state’s Sports Day henceforth. On this occasion, he also announced that he would give five lakh rupees for the Lifetime Achievement Award and three lakh rupees for other awards.
The Government of Maharashtra distributed Shiv Chhatrapati State Sports Life Honor Award, Outstanding Sports Mentor Award, Sportsperson Award, Eklavya Athlete Award (Disabled Athlete), Adventure Sports Award and Jijamata Award for the years 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. It was done in a grand ceremony on behalf of the Government of Maharashtra.
Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar graced the ceremony. State Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan, Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, and Cooperation Minister Dilip Valse Patil was present on this occasion.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Shinde said, “Late legendary wrestler Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav is an inspiration to all. In order to get inspiration from his work, his birthday is going to be celebrated in a big way every year as State Sports Day.
In the last few years, there has been a demand to increase the amount of sports awards. We are announcing to pay Rs 5 lakh instead of Rs 3 lakh and Rs 3 lakh for other sports awards organized instead of Rs 1 lakh”.
We will not let the players of Maharashtra get any issues over the world, our government will always be with them. Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always wished to combine sports events with prestige in India.
Governor Ramesh Bais said that for Maharashtra to get the position of the coordinator of this competition in the year 2036, Maharashtra needs to plan from now along with the preparations for the position of the coordinator as well as in the teams, so that the players of Maharashtra get more medals.
He further said, that to change the picture that children are addicted to smartphones and many youths are suffering from various undesirable habits, parents should encourage and support their children to play sports.
Ajit Pawar said that if the awards are given on time, it will be more important, keeping in mind that we will continue our efforts to ensure that the sports awards are given on time. It is our wish that the sportspersons of Maharashtra will hoist the tricolor at the world level in the establishment competitions like Olympics and Asian Games, and for that, our government will always stand by them.
On this occasion, Sports Minister Sanjay Bansode, and Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan also expressed their views. State sports director Suhas Diwase made the introduction.
