Thane: In yet another over billing charging incident in the twin city of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) region, Swami Samarth multi-specialty hospital which was twenty beds of COVID-19 hospital license has been suspended for violating government orders, informed health department official of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.
The civic official said that during the pandemic, Swami Samarth Multispecialty hospital located at Dombivli east had converted into COVID-19 hospital where 20 beds were available to combat coronavirus disease.
KDMC had received several complaints of overcharging by this private hospital. Following this, appointed an auditors team to oversee this.
During the probing, a team of auditors found that this hospital
excess amount charged to the patients. Following which issued a show-cause notice to the hospital earlier. However, the hospital did not give any feedback. The team reached the conclusion that the hospital was charging beyond the rate cards issued by the state government.
As per government rate cards, a charge of the general ward was fixed by the government of Rs 4000, but charged here taken of Rs 4800, PPE kit of Rs 1000 but charged here of Rs 1980, it was found during the probing, said a civic official.
A team of auditors of KDMC found three bills under the suspicion condition. On August 11, the excess bill of Rs 63,540, On August 17, the excess bill of Rs 17520 while on August 28, excess bill of Rs 612160, said an official of KDMC.
KDMC PRO Madhavi Pophale said, “Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sunil Pawar from KDMC has declared that the registration of the hospital will be suspended for 19 days (September 30) under the Mumbai Nursing Home Registration Act, 1949. This hospital was converted into a COVID-19 hospital to combat the pandemics. It should not be allowed to admit any COVID-19 patients.”
Though the admission of new patients has been prohibited. Sameer Sarvankar, KDMC’s medical officer has been appointed the hospital’s administrator with immediate effect.
Sarvankar of Municipal Corporation will be supervising the hospital until the COVID-19 patients admitted are discharged. The hospital administration remained unavailable for comment.- By Narendra Gupta
