Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has issued a blanket restriction on all official foreign travel by state officers until the end of 2025 or until further orders, citing failure of several officers to submit mandatory reports from previous trips.

A circular dated September 23, issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, stated that proposals for future foreign visits will only be considered if officers have submitted detailed reports on their earlier official travels. The directive was approved by the Chief Minister and applies to officers who undertook foreign tours between August 2024 and July 2025.

“It is hereby informed that any future proposals for official foreign travel will only be considered if the reports from previous travels (including learning and implementation details) have been duly submitted,” the circular read.

The government emphasized that these reports must include observations, key learnings, recommendations, and details of how these takeaways have been implemented in the officers’ official work.

The circular, signed by T Mahantesh, Under Secretary to the Government, further noted that the foreign travel ban will remain in effect until further notice, signaling a strict measure to ensure accountability and proper reporting for state-sponsored overseas trips.
