Bengaluru: Kannada actress Ranya Rao, who was arrested for allegedly smuggling 14.8 kg of gold from Dubai, has admitted to carrying 17 gold bars on her body, revealing crucial details about her international travels. In her statement to the police, Rao disclosed that she had traveled extensively across Europe, America, and the Middle East, including Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
“I have traveled to Europe, America, and the Middle East. I am tired at present as I did not get enough rest,” her statement read, as reported by NDTV.
The actress, daughter of real estate businessman KS Hegdesh and wife of architect Jatin Hukkeri, was apprehended at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) following a tip-off.
Rao assured authorities that she was receiving a fair trial and was not under duress while making her statement. She also confirmed that she was offered food in custody but had refused as she wasn’t hungry.
