Bollywood actress and BJP member Kangana Ranaut has retracted her recent remarks advocating the reinstatement of the controversial farm laws, expressing regret for her statement. In a video message released on Tuesday (September 24), Kangana acknowledged that her comments had sparked disappointment and clarified that her opinions did not represent the views of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“Many people are disappointed and disheartened by my statement. When the farmers’ law was proposed, many of us supported it, but our Prime Minister withdrew it with great sensitivity and sympathy. It is the duty of all of us workers to respect the dignity of his words,” Kangana said.

The controversy arose when Kangana, speaking to the media, had expressed support for bringing back the farm laws that were repealed following widespread protests in 2020. “I know this will be controversial, but I feel the farm laws that were repealed should be brought back. The farmers themselves should demand it. They are a pillar of strength for the nation’s development,” she had stated.

However, Kangana has now walked back her remarks, stating that she will be more mindful of her dual role as both an artist and a BJP member. “I have to keep in mind that I am not just an artist but also a BJP worker. My opinions should not be personal and should reflect the party’s stand. I regret and take my words back if my comments have disappointed anyone,” she added in her video message.

She concluded by reinforcing her loyalty to the party, saying, “Do listen to this, I stand with my party regarding the Farmers Law. Jai Hind.”

Reacting to her earlier statement, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia distanced the party from Kangana’s remarks, clarifying that her comments were personal and not an official position of the BJP. “Kangana Ranaut is not authorized to make such statements on behalf of BJP, and it doesn’t depict BJP’s view on the farm bills. We disapprove of this statement,” Bhatia said.

The three farm laws, which sparked large-scale protests across the country in 2020, were eventually repealed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2021, following demands from farmers’ unions and opposition parties. Kangana’s remarks reignited discussions around the laws, but her subsequent retraction underscores the sensitive nature of the issue within political circles.
