Patna: Just days before the crucial first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, Mokama has erupted into political and criminal chaos. JD(U) candidate Anant Singh was arrested late Friday night in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj worker Dularchand Yadav, a shocking development that has rocked the state’s political landscape.

Confirming the arrest, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma said that Singh was taken into custody after prima facie evidence linked him to Thursday’s violent clash near Khushhal Chak, Mokama. The incident occurred during a campaign rally for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi (Lallu Mukhiya), where Dularchand Yadav, a 75-year-old local leader and former RJD strongman, was present.

According to eyewitnesses, tensions between rival supporters escalated rapidly when Singh’s convoy crossed paths with Priyadarshi’s rally. What began as verbal sparring soon spiraled into a bloody confrontation involving stone pelting and physical assault. Amid the chaos, Yadav sustained critical injuries and later succumbed.

Police have since intensified security across Mokama, fearing potential retaliation and unrest. Additional paramilitary forces have been stationed in the area, and officials are conducting raids to apprehend others involved in the violence.

The incident’s ripple effect was felt the next day when the convoy of RJD candidate Veena Devi, wife of former MP Surajbhan Singh, came under attack near Pandarak. Stones were hurled at her vehicles, leaving one aide injured and raising concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation ahead of polling day.

Anant Singh, 58, a controversial figure often dubbed “Bahubali of Mokama”, has a long history of criminal cases and political dominance in the region. His arrest, coming at such a politically sensitive moment, has fueled speculation about the election’s fairness and the role of muscle power in Bihar politics.
