Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party – Sharad Chandra Pawar (NCP-SCP) MP Supriya Sule strongly condemned Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara’s controversial remark on a recent incident of sexual assault in Bengaluru, calling his response “very insensitive” and urging all leaders to speak with humanity and responsibility.

Reacting to Parameshwara’s statement — “Incidents like these tend to happen here and there in a big city like this…” — Sule said the comment was deeply unfortunate and reflected a lack of empathy towards survivors of such traumatic crimes.

“It’s very sad. Be it in Maharashtra or anywhere in India, several times very insensitive statements are made. We condemn such statements and I think we all need to be respectful towards each human. So, it’s very sad that such insensitive statements are being made. We condemn them all,” Sule told reporters, as quoted by ANI.

The Karnataka Home Minister’s comment, perceived by many as an attempt to downplay the seriousness of the crime, has triggered widespread outrage on social media and among women’s rights activists, who argue that such statements embolden a culture of casual acceptance of violence against women.

Sule, who has consistently raised issues related to women’s safety in Parliament, emphasized that every political leader has a responsibility to speak sensitively, especially in matters involving violence and trauma. She reiterated the need for a more compassionate and zero-tolerance approach to crimes against women.
