Mumbai: Eyebrows were raised in political circles as Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ashok Chavan called on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. Although, the agenda of Chavan’s meeting with the Governor is not yet disclosed. It’s also been said that Ashok Chavan is dissatisfied by Government’s few recent decisions and hence is widely believed to have met the Governor.

Until now Maha Vikas Aghadi Government (MVA) ministers personally have never met the Governor. Chavan heads an important department like PWD therefore curiosity is raised regarding his sudden meeting with the Governor.

When asked, Congress Spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that he doesn’t know about any such meeting. It is being said it was just a goodwill meet.

The feeling in the Congress is that this MVA government is of the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Major departments with decision making powers are distributed among Shiv Sena and NCP therefore the Congress is upset.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi had also criticised the MVA government a few months ago saying Congress doesn’t have decision making departments. Even state Congress president Balasaheb Thorat had sought an appointment and also met CM Uddhav Thackeray a month ago.

Due to such sudden bursts and now Ashok Chavan directly meeting Governor has yet again raised specter of unease within the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

Meanwhile Raj Bhavan described the meeting as a courtesy call, reports said Chavan discussed the political situation and status of statutory development boards for development of backward regions. The tenure of the statutory boards for Vidarbha, Marathwada and rest of Maharashtra ended on April 30, but no decision has been taken on giving them any extension.

When asked for his comment state BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye said  “We can see in these three parties there’s no coordination and collaboration and chaos often comes out. He also said “Ashok Chavan himself had also admitted issues within Maha Vikas Aghadi a few months ago. Now that he has met the governor picture will be clear soon.”-By Rishikesh Chavan
