New Delhi: Amid the increasing pressure from Washington and EU, the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has started the final stage of their large-scale Great Prophet-14 military drills in the Persian Gulf.
The development was confirmed by the IRGC’s official Sepah News-website which cited the IRGC’s Public Relations Department.
According to reports, Iran moved a mock aircraft carrier to the Strait of Hormuz, which probably meant that the Islamic Republic planned to use it for live-fire drills. These drills are to be held in the naval area of the south-western Hormozgan Province, west of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, and into the depth of the country. Thee drills would also include ground, aerial, and naval maneuvers with the participation of the IRGC Navy and Aerospace Force.
The high-level drills will feature missile, naval, and drone offensive operations against virtual enemy’s positions, mining operations, cutting off communication lines, missile combat operations with the use of helicopters, and operations with the use of surface-to-sea missiles, the report said.
Reports indicated that for the first time, aerial images taken by Iran’s Nur military satellite will be used for regional monitoring operations.
Meanwhile, on 28 July local media claimed that the IRGC “successfully” launched underground missiles during the second day of the Great Prophet-14 military drills in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman. The reports added that drones were used to target the bridge of a mock aircraft carrier that is a central target of the drills. Fateh and Hormuz (Hormoz) surface-to-surface missiles were also used during the drills on 28 July.
