Inter-village Cross Country Championship for Boys and Girls organised at Vilgam

Srinagar: Indian Army has always been the forerunner of guiding the youth in the right direction and motivating them into various sports activities. In continuation with the efforts to expose the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to various co-curricular and new sporting activities, an Inter-Village cross country competition was organised at Vilgam for the youth of Ramhal, Kupwara, Magam, Taratpora, Zachaldara Blocks.

As per the itinerary the event will be spread across three days and is being conducted in two different categories for boys and girls, i.e.  Class VI to VIII being the junior category and Class IX to XII being the Senior category, the initial screening of the participants was done at their school level, wherein the teachers registered the participants at their nearby army camp and thereafter were sent to participate in the final event held at Vilgam.

The scheduled programme over the next three days is as follows:

On June 28 – Girl’s competition for Senior category (5Kms) and Junior category (3Kms) was conducted today, wherein a total of 372 girls (319 Junior category and 53 Senior category) participated in the event. The girls were continuously being motivated enroute by a total of 63 Teachers, who had accompanied their respective teams. Sana Farooq of Manzgam and Hadik Izaz of Darel Payeen proved themselves to be better than others and were the winners in Senior and Junior category respectively.

On June 29 – Boys Competition for Junior category (5 Kms). Whereas, on June 30 – Boys Senior category competition (8Kms). 

To further motivate the students and to instill the competitive spirit amongst them prizes are to be given away to the contestants for each category separately for Boys and Girls.

The 1st Prize is of Rs 5,000, the 2nd Prize is of Rs 3,000 and the 3rd Prize – Rs 2,000. A Consolation Prizes of Rs 200 each along with a medal and certificate to top 10 runners in each category.
