Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar demanded that the two companies causing pollution in Mahul must be relocated at the earliest. He made this demand in the Legislative Assembly on Monday.
The issue of chemical emissions and air pollution in Mahul and its surrounding areas have been in discussions for the last several years. As a result, the local residents are suffering from respiratory disorders and other diseases due to this rising pollution. Even the Bombay High Court had taken serious cognizance of the matter and had given directions from time to time.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had held Aegis Logistics Ltd and Sealord Containers Ltd responsible. They were fined Rs 10,000 crores. However, the then Environment minister had not taken appropriate action in this regard. And hence, MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar demanded that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde must look into the matter and relocate these companies at the earliest.
