India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, is set to travel to Pakistan to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit scheduled for October 15-16 in Islamabad. The announcement was made by Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), on Friday, October 4.

“The External Affairs Minister will lead our delegation to Pakistan to participate in the SCO summit which will be held in Islamabad on October 15-16,” Jaiswal stated.

In preparation for the event, the Pakistani government has decided to enhance security measures in the capital by deploying paramilitary rangers. These rangers will remain in Islamabad until the conclusion of the summit, as reported by local media outlets.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, is a permanent intergovernmental international organization. Originally formed by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, the SCO has since expanded to include nine member states, with India and Iran being the latest additions.

The upcoming summit will serve as a crucial platform for member nations to discuss various regional and global issues, enhancing cooperation and stability within the region. As tensions in South Asia continue to be a concern, Jaishankar’s participation underscores India’s commitment to engaging with its neighbors on pressing matters.
