In a strong display of maritime power, the Indian Navy has successfully carried out multiple anti-ship missile firings in the Arabian Sea, reaffirming its long-range precision strike capabilities and operational readiness. The drills come at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam.
The Navy released dramatic footage showing BrahMos anti-ship and anti-surface cruise missiles being launched from several frontline warships, including the Kolkata-class destroyers and the Nilgiri and Krivak-class frigates. In an official statement, the Navy said, “Indian Navy ships undertook successful multiple anti-ship firings to revalidate and demonstrate readiness of platforms, systems, and crew for long-range precision offensive strike. Indian Navy stands combat-ready, credible, and future-ready in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.”
The message was clear: India’s maritime defenses are on full alert and capable of responding to any threat “anytime, anywhere, anyhow,” as highlighted by the Navy.
Ahead of the drills, Pakistan had issued a maritime notification, indicating awareness of India’s planned missile tests. The show of strength by the Indian Navy aligns with the broader national mood following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead. The tragedy, considered the deadliest in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, has sparked outrage across India.
In response, India has taken a series of strong diplomatic measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani nationals, and shutting down border crossings. Pakistan, in turn, has suspended all bilateral agreements with India. The border remains tense, with multiple ceasefire violations reported along the Line of Control. However, no casualties have been recorded so far.
Addressing the nation during his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the nation’s collective anger. “Peace was returning to Kashmir, but the enemies of the country, of Jammu and Kashmir, did not like this,” Modi said. He further added that every Indian’s blood is boiling after the heinous attack and assured that justice will be delivered.
