Indian Delegation Meets Iran Consul General in Mumbai, Condemns US-Israel Aggression and Expresses Solidarity with Iran

Mumbai: In a strong show of solidarity with the Iranian people, a delegation comprising representatives from political parties, trade unions, and social movements met with the Consul General of Iran in Mumbai, His Excellency Mohseni Fard, on Monday. The delegation unanimously condemned the United States and Israel’s aggression against Iran, as well as the ongoing genocide in Gaza and across Palestine.

Prominent members of the delegation included Arif Naseem Khan (Working President, Maharashtra, CWC, Congress Party), Com. Shyam Gohil (General Secretary, CPI-ML Liberation), Feroze Mithiborwala (General Secretary, India Palestine Solidarity Forum), Sarfaraz Arzu (Editor, Hindustan Daily), Com. Adv. Ravi Joshi (Trade Union Centre of India – TUCI), Khatoon Sheikh and Maimoona (Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan), and Ghazala Azad, Munawar Azad, and Dr. Munera Qureishi from Hum Bharat Ke Log.

During the interaction, Consul General Mohseni Fard strongly condemned the US strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, terming it illegal under international law. He stated, “The world is being reduced to the law of the jungle, as the US, Israel, and certain Western nations continue to flout global norms and undermine the United Nations and the rule of law.”

He added that while there had been limited damage to nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, all vital scientific personnel and sensitive equipment had been relocated in anticipation of the attack.

Fard emphasised that Iran is witnessing unprecedented national unity, with the youth stepping forward to support communities across the country. “Shopkeepers are distributing goods for free. The people are determined to resist and defeat this aggression,” he said.

Consul General Fard appreciated the recent telephone conversation between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Pezeshkian, calling it a positive step. He also welcomed statements of support from various Indian political leaders and parties.

Regarding the safe return of Indian nationals, he confirmed that around 1,500 Indian students and clerics stranded in Iran during the conflict are now on their way back home, in close coordination with the Indian government.

On the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of the world’s energy supply passes, Fard mentioned that Iran’s parliament has passed a resolution to shut it down, although the final decision is pending.

On Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear development, he said, “Our right to enrich uranium is non-negotiable. We are a signatory to the NPT and are exercising our sovereign rights.”

Dismissing US-Israeli efforts toward “regime change,” he stated that Iran is united, its government is democratically elected, and that Western narratives misrepresent Iran’s identity as an ancient and modern civilisational power.

The Indian delegation criticised US President Donald Trump’s military actions, stating that his unauthorised attack on Iran constitutes an act of war and violates US law. “Trump should be impeached for dragging the US into another war for Israel, breaking his election promise,” they said.

Drawing parallels with wars in Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Yemen, the delegation called the Iran conflict yet another war built on falsehoods. They praised the support shown by Russia, China, SCO, BRICS nations, and others in resisting Western hegemony and promoting a multipolar world order.

Highlighting the historical and cultural ties between India and Iran, the delegation expressed optimism that India’s growing support and political solidarity would further strengthen bilateral relations.
