New Delhi: India on Friday firmly rejected Bangladesh’s comments regarding the recent violence in Murshidabad, West Bengal, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals. In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized Bangladesh for its remarks, calling them a “barely disguised and disingenuous attempt” to parallel India’s concerns over the treatment of minorities in Bangladesh.

Jaiswal further stated, “We reject the remarks made by the Bangladesh side with regard to the incidents in West Bengal. This is a barely disguised and disingenuous attempt to draw a parallel with India’s concerns over the ongoing persecution of minorities in Bangladesh where the criminal perpetrators of such acts continue to roam free.”

In response to the controversy, Bangladesh’s interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus’ press secretary, Shafiqul Islam, condemned India’s actions and said that Bangladesh “strongly protested” India’s attempts to involve them in the incident. The press secretary called on the Indian government and West Bengal authorities to ensure full protection for the minority Muslim population in the region.
