Big Relief for Lt Col Purohit, Promotion Back on Track

In a significant development, the Indian Army has cleared Prasad Shrikant Purohit for promotion to the rank of Brigadier, marking a major turnaround in his long-stalled career. The decision comes soon after the Armed Forces Tribunal stayed his retirement, which was scheduled for March 31, 2026.

The tribunal intervened while hearing his plea seeking promotion and service benefits, directing the Ministry of Defence to keep his retirement on hold until a final decision is taken on his complaint.

Among those acquitted were Pragya Singh Thakur, Major (Retd.) Ramesh Upadhyay, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhankar Dhar Dwivedi, and Sameer Kulkarni.

Originally, 11 individuals were accused, but charges were eventually framed against seven before all were cleared of allegations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Arms Act.
