India Raises Strong Concerns Over Reported Violence In PoK
India on Wednesday voiced serious concern over reports of violence against demonstrators in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), urging the international community to closely monitor the situation and hold Pakistan accountable for alleged human rights violations.
Responding to questions regarding the recent unrest in the region, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized Islamabad’s handling of the protests and rejected allegations that India was involved in mobilizing demonstrators.
According to reports, protesters associated with the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a civil society coalition active in PoK, came under fire during demonstrations, resulting in significant casualties and injuries.
India Rejects Allegations Of Involvement
Addressing claims from Pakistan that India had played a role in supporting the protests, Jaiswal dismissed the accusations and accused Islamabad of attempting to divert attention from internal issues.
He stated, “We continue to see a pattern of fake news and videos emanating from Pakistan. This is a desperate attempt by Pakistan to cover up its own failures and divert attention from its human rights abuses.”
The remarks reflect New Delhi’s position that allegations against India are being used to shift focus away from developments unfolding within PoK.
Call For International Scrutiny
When asked whether India intended to raise the issue of conditions in PoK at international forums, including the United Nations, the MEA reiterated its long-standing position on Jammu and Kashmir.
Jaiswal said, “Let me reiterate that the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.”
He further added, “The international community is witnessing the brutality taking place there. We expect the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its misconduct and abuses.”
The comments signal India’s efforts to draw international attention to the reported treatment of civilians in the region.
India Reaffirms Support For Stability In Afghanistan
During the briefing, the MEA spokesperson also addressed questions regarding India’s stance on international sanctions linked to Afghanistan and the Taliban administration.
The discussion followed recent remarks by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Harish Parvathaneni, who noted that changing realities in Afghanistan should be considered in ongoing international deliberations.
Explaining India’s position, Jaiswal said, “India and Afghanistan are contiguous neighbours. India and Afghanistan are civilizational partners, and India supports peace, stability, and development in Afghanistan.”
The statement underscored New Delhi’s focus on regional stability and continued engagement with the Afghan people.
India-Nepal Discussions Cover Broad Partnership Agenda
The MEA briefing also touched upon recent discussions between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal.
According to Jaiswal, the meeting reviewed a wide range of bilateral issues and cooperation initiatives forming part of the broader India-Nepal relationship.
Regarding boundary-related matters, he noted that both countries agreed to continue ongoing technical work concerning the maintenance and repair of border pillars.
On questions surrounding the Lipulekh issue, the spokesperson said India’s position had already been clearly communicated in the past.
