In times of Coronavirus pandemic, Cancer patient commits suicide at KEM hospital

Mumbai: Fed up battling Cancer, a 20-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself at the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital here, police said late on Wednesday evening. The victim is a resident of New Bharat Nagar in Chembur area of Mumbai. The incident happens at a time when the authorities are battling hard to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the statement released by the police, Kharat was battling cancer and was admitted to KEM hospital on June 23. He was tested negative for the COVID-19 test. But on late Wednesday evening at around 9 pm he hanged himself from the iron grill of the hospital window and ended his life.

“He took the extreme step as he was fed up with life as he was suffering from a critical disease. A case of Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at Bhoiwada police station”, said DCP Saurabh Tripathi.-By Vikas Nag
