Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) at Film City, Goregaon, terming it a milestone in India’s growing creator economy.
Speaking at the event, CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “Today is a proud day for Mumbai and the entire country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had set a vision to establish Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) on the lines of IIT in Mumbai. We provided land for this in Film City, Goregaon and the Government of India started the construction of a grand and modern building at a cost of Rs 400 crore. Although the work on the main building is not yet complete, but the admission process has already started here.”
Calling the institute a symbol of industry-academia collaboration, Fadnavis added, “This is not just a project of the Central and State Government, but it is a symbol of the creator economy and industry-academia partnership. All the major creative companies of the country are becoming partners in it. This is a historic step to prepare human resources for next generation entertainment in Mumbai, which is the economic capital of the country. For this, I heartily thank and congratulate the Government of India, Prime Minister Modi ji, Union Minister Shri Vaishnav ji and all the other organizations.”
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw echoed the sentiment and emphasized the strategic vision behind the institute. “The focus is on first developing the campus and the courses well and also forging industry partnerships,” he said.
