Mumbai: The Mahayuti government has issued an order granting reservation to the Maratha community by accepting the provisions of the Hyderabad Gazette. “If that is the case, will Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also follow Telangana’s example, where a caste-wise census was conducted and 42% reservation granted to OBCs?” asked Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal.

Sapkal said the government’s stand has created confusion and discord. “The government claims Marathas will get OBC quota reservation while also insisting OBCs will remain unaffected. Both cannot be true. This double-speak has pitted Marathas and OBCs against each other.”

He further alleged, “The BJP-led alliance wants to divide society in the name of reservation. Congress has always maintained that Marathas must get reservation, but the only permanent solution is a caste-wise census. Announcements alone won’t work; implementation is essential.”
