IAF Civilian Arrested for Leaking Defence Secrets to Pakistan, Spy Network Exposed

India’s security agencies have uncovered a major espionage case after a civilian employee posted at an Indian Air Force station was arrested for allegedly sharing classified military information with Pakistani intelligence operatives.

Joint Operation Leads to Arrest

The accused, Sumit Kumar, was working as a Multi-Tasking Staff member at the Air Force Station Chabua. A native of Prayagraj, he was apprehended in a joint operation conducted by Rajasthan Intelligence and Air Force Intelligence. After his detention, he was brought to Jaipur for further questioning.

Link Emerges from Earlier Arrest

Officials revealed that the case is connected to an earlier arrest made in January 2026. A suspect named Jhabara Ram from Jaisalmer was taken into custody, and his interrogation reportedly exposed links that led investigators to Kumar.

Sensitive Defence Data Allegedly Shared

Investigators claim that Kumar had been in touch with Pakistani handlers since 2023 and was allegedly passing on confidential information in exchange for money. The data is believed to include critical details about Indian Air Force facilities such as the Air Force Station Nal, including locations of fighter jets, missile systems, and personnel-related information.

Use of Social Media for Espionage

Authorities further stated that the accused used social media platforms to transmit sensitive data. He is also alleged to have helped create accounts for Pakistani operatives using mobile numbers registered in his own name, raising serious concerns about internal security and digital misuse.

Case Registered Under Strict Laws

A case has been filed against Kumar under the Official Secrets Act 1923 and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. He was formally arrested on March 22, and interrogation is ongoing.

Wider Espionage Network Suspected

Officials believe this case could be part of a larger Pakistan-backed espionage network operating within India. Multiple agencies are now working together to trace other possible links and identify additional operatives connected to the network.
