Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a strong political attack on the Congress party while speaking about the upcoming electoral strategy in the state. He said the BJP will soon finalise its list of candidates and also took a dig at senior Congress leaders.

The remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of upcoming elections, with both the BJP and Congress preparing their campaign strategies.

When Will BJP Finalise Its Candidate List?

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said the party plans to finalise its candidates between March 11 and March 15.

He also mentioned that the party’s political outreach programme will continue depending on the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India.

“If the Election Commission postpones the poll dates, then we will do the third phase of Yatra; otherwise, this Yatra will continue along with the election,” Sarma said.

Sarma Alleges Congress Tried to Create Problems

The Assam Chief Minister also alleged that the Congress attempted to disrupt his visit in certain areas.

According to Sarma, he did not see much presence of Congress in regions dominated by Sanatani, Adivasi, Hindu and Assamese communities.

He claimed that people from different communities, including both Hindus and Muslims in Assamese areas, were not supporting the Congress party.

Why Did Sarma Target Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain?

Sarma specifically named Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain in his remarks.

He claimed that their leadership would harm the Congress party.

“Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain will destroy the Congress party. If they remain in the Congress party, the BJP will benefit,” Sarma said.

Sarma Draws Comparison With Rahul Gandhi

The Chief Minister also drew a political comparison involving Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi.

He said that just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue to become Prime Minister if Rahul Gandhi remains in Congress, the BJP would gain politically if Gogoi and Hussain continue to lead the party in Assam.

The statement is expected to trigger fresh political reactions as election campaigning gathers pace in the state.
