Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra is recovering well, confirmed his wife and actress-turned-politician Hema Malini, after several media outlets circulated false news about his death.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Hema Malini strongly condemned the rumours, calling them “irresponsible” and “deeply disrespectful.”
“What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy,” she wrote.
Dharmendra, 89, who has been undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, was reportedly shifted to the ICU on Monday morning for closer medical supervision. Family sources said the actor is stable and improving.
His elder daughter Esha Deol also issued a statement on Instagram, urging fans not to believe unverified information.
“The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa’s speedy recovery,” she posted.
On Monday night, a stream of celebrities visited Dharmendra at the hospital, including his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, wife Hema Malini, and daughter Esha Deol. Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were also spotted arriving at Breach Candy Hospital to check on the veteran actor’s health.
