As the Haryana Assembly elections draw near, the Congress party has unveiled seven key guarantees, including a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the introduction of a caste survey. These promises aim to address crucial social, economic, and agricultural issues in the state.
Under its social security plan, Congress has pledged a monthly pension of ₹6,000 for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and widows. Additionally, the party has vowed to reinstate the old pension scheme, a move designed to appeal to government employees. Congress also promises to provide 300 units of free electricity to households and free medical treatment of up to ₹25 lakh, expanding the safety net for residents.
In response to the longstanding demands of farmers, Congress has committed to introducing a legal guarantee for MSP, ensuring stable and fair prices for agricultural produce. To promote social equity, the party plans to conduct a caste survey and raise the income limit for the creamy layer from ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh, allowing more people to benefit from reservation policies.
The “7 Guarantees” were announced in the presence of prominent Congress leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan. Addressing the media, Kharge said, “We will implement these guarantees, and that is why we have named it ‘Saat Vaade, Pakke Irade.'” He further added, “Other than these seven guarantees, our 53-page manifesto will be explained in detail later in Chandigarh, but these promises will surely be fulfilled by us.”
Haryana’s 90-member assembly is set to go to the polls on October 5, with the vote count scheduled for October 8. This election comes at a pivotal moment for Congress, which has faced challenges in maintaining its political presence in the state in recent years. The party’s “7 Guarantees” aim to resonate with voters seeking social security, agricultural support, and inclusive governance.
