Srinagar: In a significant initiative to educate the public about the newly enacted criminal laws, the Handwara police organized an awareness programme at Government Degree College at Langate, Government Higher Secondary School at Sanzipora, and BDO Office, at Tarathpora.

The event aimed to familiarize students, government employees, and local residents with the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)—which have replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act, respectively.

The programme focused on key aspects of the new legal framework, highlighting major amendments, procedural changes, and their implications for the justice system. Senior police officials and legal experts addressed the participants, emphasizing the significance of these reforms in enhancing legal transparency, ensuring better law enforcement, and safeguarding citizens’ rights.

Attendees, including students, faculty members, government employees, and local residents, actively participated in the discussions and expressed their appreciation for the initiative. The Handwara police reaffirmed its commitment to organizing similar awareness campaigns in the future to promote legal literacy and ensure wider public understanding of the new laws.
