Mumbai: In a major development linked to the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case, several properties owned by absconding accused Tiger Memon and his family are likely to be auctioned soon, officials have confirmed. The move follows the completion of the takeover process by the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (SAFEMA) Authority, which has begun evaluating the assets for public auction.
According to an official familiar with the proceedings, 17 properties connected to the Memon family were identified by the special TADA court, out of which eight have already been seized by SAFEMA. These include three flats in the Al Husseini building in Mahim, central Mumbai — a location infamous for hosting one of the meetings where the 1993 blasts conspiracy was allegedly hatched.
Tiger Memon, a key conspirator behind the March 12, 1993 bombings that killed 257 people and injured hundreds, has remained on the run for over three decades and is believed to be hiding in Pakistan. His brother Yakub Memon was executed in 2015 following his conviction, while other family members received varying sentences from the TADA court.
The seized flats in Mahim, which had remained sealed for nearly 34 years, were reopened in April this year for official inspection. Authorities are now assessing their value, and the auction process is expected to begin between December 2025 and January 2026.
The Memon family’s assets extend beyond Mahim. Among the properties under scrutiny is a 10,000-square-metre land parcel in Kole Kalyan (Vakola), valued at approximately ₹400 crore, though SAFEMA has yet to gain full possession due to ongoing encroachment issues.
Other properties — including a Bandra flat, two units in Kapadia Nagar, Kurla, and a property in Zaveri Bazar — are also slated for auction once the possession formalities are complete. Additionally, four shops in Manish Market, jointly owned by Tiger Memon and Mohammad Dosa, remain tied up in a pending court appeal.
