Kupwara: International Wushu champion Rashid Shafi was accorded a grand and emotional welcome in Kupwara on his return home after winning a gold medal for India at the Nordic International Wushu Championship in Sweden. His achievement has sparked widespread celebration across the district, with locals hailing him as a symbol of dedication and sporting excellence.
A large felicitation programme was organised at the Indoor Stadium, Handwara, where hundreds of people, including sports enthusiasts, young athletes, officials, and residents, gathered to honour the champion. The atmosphere was charged with pride as Rashid’s victory was described as a historic moment not only for Kupwara but for the entire Jammu and Kashmir region.
Speakers at the event praised Rashid Shafi’s discipline, perseverance and years of hard training.
