New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the disruption of BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s movie Emergency in the UK on Friday. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed the issue in a press conference, acknowledging the reports of the film being obstructed in multiple screening halls.

In a firm statement, Jaiswal remarked, “We consistently raise concerns with the UK Government regarding incidents of violent protest and intimidation by anti-India elements. Freedom of speech and expression cannot be applied selectively, and those obstructing it must be held accountable.”

Jaiswal also expressed hope that the UK government would take appropriate action against those responsible for the disruptions. “Our High Commission in London remains in regular communication with our community members for their safety and well-being,” he added.

This reaction from the MEA comes after protests organized by British Sikh groups against Emergency led to disruptions in cinemas across the UK since the film’s release last Friday. The situation took a political turn when Conservative Party Member of Parliament Bob Blackman criticized the protests, urging the Home Secretary to take action against “masked Khalistani terrorists.”

In response to the political uproar, Kangana Ranaut took to social media to express her frustration over the lack of support from Indian politicians. She posted, “A British MP raises his voice for my fundamental right of free speech, meanwhile there is pin-drop silence from Indian politicians and feminists.”
