Four Arrested in South Calcutta Law College Alleged Gangrape; Kolkata Police Chief Appeals for Victim’s Privacy

Kolkata: In a chilling case that has shaken South Kolkata, four individuals have been arrested in connection with an alleged gangrape at South Calcutta Law College, officials confirmed on Monday. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma addressed the media, calling it an extremely sensitive case and urging citizens and media alike to refrain from disclosing the victim’s identity.

“The incident that took place at South Calcutta Law College is being investigated. This is a very sensitive case, and I do not want to reveal the details of the investigation at the moment. In less than 12 hours, three people were arrested. Later, another person was also arrested,” Verma stated.

He further assured that police are leaving no stone unturned to collect all relevant evidence. “The identity of the victim is a very sensitive issue, and I request that everyone refrain from revealing the identity of the victim on social media or anywhere else. I am making this request on behalf of the Kolkata Police. All necessary actions are being taken by police, and I assure that police will do everything possible,” Verma added.

Sources said the crime took place on campus premises, sparking outrage among students and residents of the area. Protests and demonstrations have also been reported outside the college, demanding swift and harsh punishment for the accused.

Police have formed a special investigation team to probe all angles of the incident, including any lapses in security on the college campus. Senior officers are personally monitoring the case, with additional teams deployed to prevent any law-and-order issues.
