Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting her eighth consecutive Union Budget, highlighted agriculture as one of the key focus areas. She introduced the PM Dhandhanya Krishi Yojana, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity in 100 low-yield districts and improve storage facilities at the Panchayat level.

The scheme will benefit 1.7 crore farmers and will be implemented in collaboration with state governments to create better opportunities in the agricultural sector. Global best practices will also be integrated to improve farming efficiency.

Additionally, Sitharaman announced a special initiative for pulse production, focusing on urad, toor, and masoor dal, to ensure self-sufficiency in pulse consumption.

With rising income levels leading to increased fruit consumption, the government will work with states to boost farmer remuneration.

In a special push for Bihar, Sitharaman unveiled plans to set up a Makhana Board to support and train Makhana farmers, strengthening the state’s position as a leading producer.

These measures signal the government’s commitment to agricultural growth, food security, and farmer welfare ahead of crucial state elections.
