Rajkot: AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday strongly criticised the Gujarat government over the arrest of farmers during peaceful protests. Addressing a press conference, he stated, “We all witnessed the dictatorship of Gujarat’s BJP government, as I was stopped from meeting farmers in jail today. Those kept in Rajkot jail are common farmers, not criminals.”

Highlighting the importance of agriculture in the state, Kejriwal said nearly 54 lakh people in Gujarat depend on farming for their livelihood. He added that 88 farmers were arrested on alleged false charges, with 42 already granted bail while the remaining continue to face detention.

Kejriwal emphasised that farmers were exercising their democratic rights to protest for their entitlements and called for immediate release of those still in custody.
