Following the fourth round of discussions between protesting farmer unions and Union Ministers in Chandigarh, General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarvan Singh Pandher, affirmed that the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march will persist on February 21. Pandher emphasized that discussions will also focus on the government’s proposal regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP).

“We will continue with the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on Feb 21 if there is no result,” Pandher stated, highlighting the ongoing deliberations between the government and farmer unions to resolve the impasse.

Jagjit Singh Dallewal, another prominent farmer leader, disclosed that the government’s proposal includes assurances on MSP for pulses, maize, and cotton, to be supervised by designated government agencies. Dallewal emphasized the need for further discussions on various demands put forth by the farmers.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal expressed optimism after the extensive discussions, noting that farmer leaders are expected to announce their decision on the government’s proposals by tomorrow. Goyal outlined the government’s plan to engage cooperative societies like NCCF and NAFED to procure agricultural produce from farmers at MSP rates for the next five years, without quantity restrictions.

The ongoing deadlock stems from farmers’ demands for legal guarantees on MSPs and loan waivers. Despite multiple rounds of talks earlier this month, including on February 8, 12, and 15, both sides have yet to reach a consensus.

Thousands of farmers remain encamped at the Punjab-Haryana border, with heightened security measures impeding their progress towards Delhi. The ‘Delhi Chalo’ call, initiated by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, underscores the urgency for the government to address farmers’ concerns.

As the standoff persists, the nation watches closely, anticipating a resolution to one of the most significant agricultural protests in recent times.
