In an emotional moment inside the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to veteran leader Ajit Pawar, dedicating the state’s Budget to his memory and announcing the construction of a memorial in his honour.

Addressing members in the Assembly on Friday, Fadnavis said Pawar’s passing had created a deep void in the political landscape of Maharashtra.

“My heart feels heavy today,” the Chief Minister said while remembering Pawar’s long political career and contributions to the state’s financial administration.

Fadnavis Recalls Ajit Pawar’s Historic Role

Fadnavis highlighted Ajit Pawar’s unique place in Maharashtra’s political history, noting that he served as Deputy Chief Minister the highest number of times.

He also praised Pawar’s experience as one of the state’s longest-serving finance ministers.

“The man who served as Deputy Chief Minister the most number of times is not among us today. He presented the Budget for 11 years and his fiscal prudence helped keep the state on track,” Fadnavis said during his speech.

According to the Chief Minister, Pawar’s understanding of financial governance played a major role in shaping Maharashtra’s economic policies over the years.

Maharashtra Budget Dedicated to Pawar’s Legacy

Fadnavis announced that this year’s Maharashtra State Budget 2026 would be dedicated to Pawar’s legacy and decades of public service.

He said Pawar’s leadership in economic planning helped maintain stability in the state’s finances during challenging times.

The Chief Minister described Pawar as a leader whose contribution to governance and fiscal management would be remembered for years.

Government Announces Memorial in His Honour

Along with the tribute in the Assembly, the Maharashtra government also announced that a memorial would be constructed to honour Pawar’s contribution to state politics.

Fadnavis said the memorial would stand as a lasting reminder of Pawar’s long public life and the role he played in shaping Maharashtra’s financial direction.

The announcement created a sombre atmosphere in the Assembly as leaders from different political parties joined in remembering Pawar’s influence in state politics.

NCP Leader Amol Mitkari Shares Emotional Message

Meanwhile, Amol Mitkari, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party, also paid tribute to Pawar through a post on social media.

In a message on X, Mitkari recalled Pawar’s long-standing tradition of bowing before the portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj before presenting the Budget in the Assembly.

He noted that Pawar had presented the state Budget 11 times and was known for speaking fearlessly about policies aimed at public welfare.

Mitkari said the Assembly now feels incomplete without Pawar’s presence and that Maharashtra would deeply miss his leadership and voice in the House.
