An Enforcement Directorate (ED) team arrived at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday, mere hours after the Delhi High Court declined to provide him protection from coercive action in a liquor probe. The court, stating its unwillingness to grant relief at this stage, paved the way for ED officials to take action against Kejriwal.

Following the court’s decision, ED officials swiftly reached Kejriwal’s Civil Lines residence. However, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj was denied entry into the premises, with Delhi Police barricading the roads leading to Kejriwal’s house.

The purpose of the ED’s visit was initially stated to be the service of a summons in the case. However, reports soon emerged suggesting that officials possessed a search warrant, indicating that a raid might be underway at Kejriwal’s residence. There were also speculations about the possibility of Kejriwal being interrogated, given his repeated non-compliance with the agency’s summons over the past year.

Saurabh Bhardwaj expressed concerns about the situation, suggesting that it appeared to be a raid at Kejriwal’s residence. He remarked on the stringent security measures preventing anyone from entering, hinting at the possibility of Kejriwal’s arrest.

During the court hearing earlier in the day, Kejriwal was questioned about his failure to seek anticipatory bail from the lower court if he anticipated arrest. The bench highlighted Kejriwal’s repeated non-attendance of summons since October and questioned his reluctance to challenge the agency’s actions.

The case under scrutiny revolves around allegations of corruption and money laundering related to the formulation and execution of the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22, which was subsequently annulled. Notably, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are already in judicial custody in connection with the case.

Kejriwal’s involvement in the case has been emphasized in multiple charge sheets filed by the ED. The agency alleges that individuals associated with Kejriwal were in communication regarding the excise policy, resulting in undue benefits and kickbacks to the AAP.

As the legal proceedings intensify, the developments at Kejriwal’s residence underscore the escalating tensions surrounding the case and the political implications it carries.
