In a surprising turn of events just weeks before the Lok Sabha elections, Election Commissioner Arun Goel has tendered his resignation, which has been promptly accepted by the President of India. This development leaves the Election Commission of India (ECI) with only Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, as there was already a vacancy prior to Mr. Goel’s resignation.

Sources, speaking to NDTV on Friday, had hinted that the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates could be expected next week. However, with Mr. Goel’s resignation, there is speculation regarding whether this timeline might be affected.
