New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday carried out searches at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj and several other locations in the capital as part of its probe into alleged irregularities in hospital construction projects sanctioned during his tenure as Delhi’s health minister.

According to sources, the agency is conducting raids at around 12 sites across Delhi. The investigation is linked to projects cleared in 2018–19, when the Delhi government approved ₹5,590 crore for the construction of 24 hospitals. The facilities, including ICUs, were to be completed within six months, yet even after three years, most remain unfinished.

Officials have flagged serious irregularities in the process. Despite an expenditure of ₹800 crore, only about half the work has been completed. The cost of the LNJP Hospital project alone reportedly surged from ₹488 crore to ₹1,135 crore without substantial progress. In several instances, construction is said to have begun without proper approvals, while contractors’ roles have also come under suspicion.

Investigators are additionally probing delays in implementing the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS), which has been pending since 2016 and is alleged to have been deliberately stalled. Alongside Bharadwaj, former Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain is also under the scanner in this case.
