Patna/New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced that the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 will be held in two phases — on November 6 and November 11 — with the results scheduled for November 14, 2025.
Addressing the media, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, described the elections as the “mother of all elections”, highlighting the ECI’s commitment to a peaceful and seamless voting process. Kumar stated, “We want to assure Bihar voters that not only will the elections be exemplary and smooth, but also the most peaceful due to a special focus on maintaining law and order.”
Bihar’s Legislative Assembly has 243 seats, including 203 General, 38 Scheduled Caste (SC), and 2 Scheduled Tribe (ST) constituencies. The state’s voter base is substantial, with nearly 7.43 crore registered voters as of September 30, 2025, including 3.92 crore male voters, 14.01 lakh first-time voters, and over 1.63 crore youth aged 20-29. Special groups include 4.04 lakh senior citizens aged 85 and above, around 14,000 centenarians, and 7.2 lakh persons with disabilities (PwDs). Additionally, 1.63 lakh service electors are registered.
To manage the massive voter turnout, the ECI has set up 90,712 polling stations, with 13,911 in urban areas and 76,801 in rural regions. All stations will have 100% webcasting facilities for transparency, and 1,350 stations are designated as Model Polling Stations, including stations managed by women (1,044), youth (38), and PwDs (292).
Given Bihar’s diverse geography, innovative security measures have been planned. In the Diara region, horse-mounted patrols will cover 250 polling stations, while boat patrols will secure 197 riverine or waterlogged stations.
